In a recent statement, celebrated US singer Mary Millben expressed her admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s compassionate approach in implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in India. Mary Millben hailed the CAA as a “pathway to peace” for Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists seeking religious freedom, emphasizing its significance in fostering inclusivity and harmony.
Mary Millben, known for her viral moment touching PM Modi’s feet during his US visit in June 2023, urged the United States to adopt a more supportive stance as PM Modi embarks on a potential third term, stressing the importance of fostering stronger democratic partnerships.

Earlier remarks from US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller expressing concerns over the CAA’s implementation were met with India’s firm assertion of the act being an internal matter. India emphasized its commitment to upholding inclusive traditions and human rights, rebuffing external commentary on its domestic policies.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, enacted on March 11, seeks to amend the Citizenship Act of 1955, offering a pathway to Indian citizenship for persecuted religious minorities from neighboring Muslim-majority nations. Eligible migrants who arrived in India prior to December 31, 2014, and faced religious persecution in their countries of origin stand to benefit from expedited citizenship under the act.
